What is Moodle?
Moodle is a learning management system that lets you provide documents, graded assignments, quizzes, discussion forums, etc. to students with an easy to learn and use interface. Beside thousands of universities, many global commercial organizations are using Moodle for their employee's learning support. Moodle is open-source, meaning that the programming code that runs it can be changed to meet the specific needs of users and institutions. Moodle is also free to download and use; there is no licensing fee. Moodle’s worldwide numbers and enterprise level usage place it as the open source alternative to Blackboard and other proprietary systems in terms of maturity and scale. As of October 2012 it had a user base of 70,793 registered and verified sites, serving 63,204,814 users in 6.7+ million courses with 1.2+ million trainers, teachers and lecturers.
